[P8501]
£3,200.00

Oil on board by Frederick John Widgery. (British, 1861-1942)      'The River Exe'. (Devon, England).   Exceptionally beautiful amd tranquil painting in original condition and in the original frame.  Panelled to rear and glazed.

Dimentions :- Width of panel-37.5cm (14.1/2").  Height of panel-14.5cm (5.3/4").       Width of frame-53cm (20.3/4").     Height of frame-30.5cm.(12").

Born the son of an artist, Frederick studied at the Exeter School of Art, then at Antwerp under 'Verlat', and at the Bushey School of Art under 'Herkomer'.

He mainly painted  landscapes of the south-west mostly in watercolours but occasionally a brilliantly painted oil appears on the market which attracts a premium price.

Frederick John Widgery was a prolific artist but still managed to serve the town of his birth, Exeter, as a magistrate and one time mayor.
